How do I get a broadband connection?

Well, if your exchange is Activated by BT it is very simple.

  1. Order ADSL from a supplier. BT (Wanadoo), Virgin AOL, AAISP, Zen - there are 100s to choose from.
  2. They send your Splitter and Router
  3. Plug them in and login
  4. Enjoy!

As a support engineer I do a few of these every week and they take me around 10 mins. You may need to allow a little longer if you are a novice but most ISPs have a good help desk for new connections.

If your exchange is NOT Activated then the fun starts. You can use Satellite, Radio, Optical or Microwave connections back to a base station and then onto the Internet. The actual mechanics of each connection will depend on a whole host of variables. When we get the connection details later this year we will post specific case studies for local folks to give you a better idea of which connection is right for you.
