Village Agent Project

Document Actions
The Village Agent Project was established in April 2000 to provide support to communities across North East Staffordshire.

A team of "village agents" (local people with local aims) were recruited to assist the communities to identify needs, encourage sustainability of existing resources and explore new issues. Regular consultations, of varying methods, led to the development of Parish Plans. Since then, 27 of the 34 eligible parishes have completed plans that the action groups set up at the start of the project and all meet on a regular basis.

Events involving all the communities have included Fairs and Festivals through Housing Needs Surveys and support for crosscutting issues developed to meet applications for funding. We have developed a number of community consultation methods and completed contracts for East Staffordshire Borough Council,Staffordshire Moorlands Primary Care Trust and the initial consultation for the Broadband campaign.

Workshops are currently being developed on Affordable Housing and Heritage Initiatives for the Autumn of 2005. Initial funding for the project was to March 2006, further funding has now been secured well into the future.

Over 450 projects have been developed by the community from sensory gardens in Ipstones, play areas in many communities, gardening groups, village in bloom and the enhancement of many local festivals. History societies and exhibitions, heritage initiatives, restoration of 200 year old boathouse in Rudyard, well restorations and carving workshops to enhance historial sites.
